The Global Burden of Disease, Injuries and Risk Factors (GBD) Study Lead Investigator: IHME Data Team Institution : Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation E-Mail : eln1@uw.edu Proposal ID : 1452 Proposal Description: The Global Burden of Disease, Injuries and Risk Factors (GBD) study is a systematic, scientific effort to quantify the comparative magnitude of health loss due to diseases, injuries, and risk factors by age, sex, and geographies for specific points in time along with measures of uncertainty. The study is conducted by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. By leveraging key achievements either directly from GBD or in parallel to it, the research provides cutting-edge and timely estimates of key health indicators around the world with regular updates and provide these estimates via peer-reviewed publications, reports, workshops, and interactive data visualizations. IHME endeavors to continually incorporate new data to broaden our understanding of health trends and patterns, explore connections between health and learning and economic productivity, provide forecasts of burden estimates, understand the drivers and inputs to health (including their costs), contrast levels of health expenditures related to health drivers and indicators (such as diseases and injuries), and to assess the effectiveness of interventions and measures aimed to improve health. The requested data will further our research for the GBD study and related areas (local burden of disease, forecasting, intervention analyses, measurements of human capital, and assessments of resource availability and use) in order to expand the quantitative evidence available to decision-makers.
